Q.     Do families have to reside in the Ryde area to enrol in Ryde Secondary College?

A. Yes, all NSW Government High Schools have boundaries. Students attending Ryde Secondary College must live within the boundary unless they are in the selective or support streams.  You will be required to present your Tenancy Agreement or Council Rates Notice to confirm residency.

Q.     Where can I obtain an Enrolment in a Government School Application form?

A.     Click on the Enrolment button, find the Enrolment form, then click on the website link and download form.

Q.     I have a child who needs support, who do I contact?

A.     The first point of contact is the Year Advisor for your child's year. If the matter is subject related, the Year Advisor may ask the Head Teacher to contact you. You may also contact the Head Teacher about subject related matters. 

If the matter relates to your child's welfare or interaction with other students, your Year Advisor may investigate the matter, or refer you to the School Counsellor, Head Teacher Welfare or Deputy Principal, depending on the nature of the matter.

If your child has a learning need, your Year Advisor may ask you to contact the teacher, the Head Teacher of a subject, Head Teacher Learning Support, or other specialist staff, depending on the need. You may also contact the Head Teacher Learning Support if you have concerns about your child's learning issues across a number of subjects.

If you are seeking additional advice regarding homework or extension, the teacher or Head Teacher of the subject is the appropriate contact.

If you have immediate concerns of a major nature, please contact a Deputy Principal.

Q.     Where do we purchase the College Uniform items?

A.   Lowes Menswear, Macquarie Shopping Centre, Herring Road, North Ryde.

Q.     Do student's have to wear Black laced-up shoes?

A. Yes, students should have enclosed leather shoes to protect feet.  This is a safety requirement for schools, and is particularly important for students when studying Science, Hospitality and D&T courses.

Q.    My child will be leaving the school, what should I do?

A.    Parents are required to send a letter explaining situation to the school at least 5 days prior to a student leaving.  Two days prior to the student's departure, any outstanding fees must be paid. The student must return their school text books, laptop and charger.  The student will be required to visit certain faculties to sign out.  On their last day the student should pick up a Transfer Certificate when all requirements are complete.

Q.    My family is planning a holiday during school term of more than 5 days, what should we do?

A.    Parents are required to send a letter explaining their plans to the school at least 5 weeks prior to a student taking leave.   Parents will be required to complete and sign a Department form for Extended Leave. This must be submitted for approval. Leave is usually granted for short periods, where the need does not conflict significantly with assessment or course completion.

Q.     My child is away from school due to sickness, what should I do?

A.     On the first day, please telephone the school and advise of your child's absence.  If  he or she is away 2 or more days, please continue to telephone the school.  On their first day of return to school, the student will be required to submit a Medical Certificate for days absent. This must be handed in at Roll call.

 

Q.     My child has a medical problem that requires medicine or tablets to be administered during the day, what should I do?

A.     The First Aid Officer has permission to administer medications.  You should bring medicine or tablets to the school  office with instructions and  your child will be assisted with his/her requirements.  You can give the First Aid Officer permission to administer headache medicine, This must be a written approval signed by parents.

For chronic or serious health issues including anaphylaxis and asthma, you must communicate this information to the school on the enrolment form, or through written contact/email.

A health care plan will need to be completed with our staff, to ensure your child's needs are met.

Please ensure you also make the Year Advisor aware of any health matters related to your child.

Any health matters and medication requirements must also be communicated, on any excursion permission note, in order to assist teachers in managing your child's health.
