Principal's Message
Ryde Secondary College is a partially selective co-educational high school for students from Years 7 to 12. Our current enrolment is 986 students.
Our school community strives to create a dynamic and collaborative learning environment in which every child is valued, a wide range of talents and interests are fostered and positive learning outcomes are achieved. A broad and engaging curriculum is offered at all levels. The College has also invested significant resources in teacher professional learning with a strong focus on student engagement, literacy development, and implementing Information and Communication Technologies to support improved student learning outcomes.
An academically selected cohort of 60 students is included in each of Years 7 to 12. The College still enrols local and non-local mainstream students in each year, although there is a waiting list of non-local students in Years 7, 8 9 and 10. There is a gifted and talented mainstream class in each of the junior years. Outstanding results have been achieved by our students in both selective and mainstream groups.
Ryde Secondary College also boasts a Special Education Support Unit, which enriches the culture of the College. Community and disability access is provided to all specialist areas and most of the classrooms.
Our Student Wellbeing Policy fosters a supportive and positive school culture and preventative wellbeing strategies, which emphasise core values of self-discipline, cooperation, respect, responsibility and leadership. Our extensive merit award program supports this policy by rewarding student effort, achievement and participation.
We encourage all our students to participate in our extensive extra-curricular program to develop their talents, team and leadership skills, and constructive relationships. More than 90 extracurricular activities provide opportunities for every child to “shine”, including competitive sport, leadership programs, a College band and orchestra and other cultural activities such as Creative Fusion and Ryde Idol, many competitions including the Sharemarket Competition, charity and social justice-based activities such as Peer Support, Student Representative Council, the High Resolves Program and Duke of Edinburgh Scheme.
Parent and community support for Ryde Secondary College is highly valued. Our parents are encouraged to participate in the P & C and other school activities and to work in partnership with the college to foster the academic, and social development of our students.
At Ryde Secondary College we are committed to providing a caring inclusive environment and high quality public education for every child.
